XTRABYTES will soon be releasing a blockchain platform that is immensely fast, infinitely scalable, and extremely secure. Built around a new consensus method named Proof-of-Signature, the platform’s strengths derive from a radically rethinking of blockchain consensus mechanisms. The result is a highly decentralized substructure that almost inherently supersedes the limitations found in current blockchain technology. While Proof-of-Signature (PoSign) is gradually becoming known, less commonly understood is how this decentralized substructure operates (STATICs, PULSE, & VITALS). Here is a quick run-down coupled with an analogy for VITALS:
PoSign’s Building Blocks
First and foremost in this respect is the STATIC (Services Transactions and Trusted in Control) node network responsible for verifying transaction blocks. Serving as the central communication for these STATIC nodes is PULSE (Ping Unified Ledger Synchronization Equalizer), the second element upon which PoSign operates. Not unlike Instant Messenger, its PULSE that actually alerts the STATIC nodes when a transaction block must be validated. It’s the third element named VITALS (Virtual Information Transmissions Aligning STATICS) that serves as the pathways between nodes and which I will turn my attention to now.
VITALS is a proprietary network that provides VPN-like functionality to the STATIC nodes. More specifically, it interconnects online STATIC nodes using a private virtual network, thus ensuring interference-free direct paths between these nodes. Why a private virtual network? Consider the benefits a standard VPN offers: greater security, improved privacy protection, better connectivity, and access to restricted resources.
Not incidentally, the VITALS network contains fixed virtual nodes that correspond to one or more of these STATIC nodes. This arrangement is one more way in which XTRABYTES’s proprietary network is configured to verify transactions with both security and speed.
The Empire State Building Analogy
How might VITALS operate in a more practical manner? Consider VITALS as being analogous to a pneumatic mail system. In particular, the system of mail vacuum tubes used to transport mail throughout buildings until the mid-twentieth century.
If one can imagine the entire VITALS network as being akin to pneumatic tubes (reaching offices throughout a building like the Empire State Building), each office within that building is analogous to STATIC node. Like any office, each STATIC node is secured with a set of unique locks. And like any office, a communication system exists (ie telephone) with which to contact other offices in real time. In the XTRABYTES network, the communication system connecting STATIC nodes in real time is named PULSE.
If an office is empty, the telephone system allows one to leave a message until it is once again occupied. In much the same way, PULSE leaves alerts for offline STATIC nodes to receive once they come online again. But the telephone system wasn’t meant to fulfill all communication needs. Offices that had to send documents internally to each other relied upon a pneumatic mail system instead. Likewise, STATIC nodes that need to send transaction data to each other rely upon the VPN-like VITALS network (not the PULSE network). Carrying this analogy further, occupied offices (online STATIC nodes) generally employ this pneumatic mail system (VITALS) to facilitate contractual business (achieve Proof-of-Signature consensus).
And while phone messages (PULSE alerts) can be left for review when an office (or STATIC node) is empty (offline), this does not preclude pneumatic tubes (VITALS) from distributing mail as well (in this case, transaction records documenting what alerts have transpired). Indeed, one occupied office (online STATIC node) can conduct all the needed transactions that are required. It simply must confirm all voicemails (PULSE alerts) and ensure that all documents (transaction records) have been distributed to offline offices (STATIC nodes) for review when they become occupied. *
Given this analogy, it’s easy to see how VITALS facilitates transaction verifications. While PULSE may be akin Instant Messenger, its the VITALS network that actually does the heavy lifting. Nonetheless, VITALS may remain the least understood/appreciated aspect of XTRABYTE’S new platform.
